Considering the fact that I am more than 10 years successfully running hundreds of Group Homes, people often approach me with questions. What I could notice so far is that people often don’t recognize what are their priorities at the moment. Some people get too technical and others have a high-level overview and lack of specification.
And when we are talking about group homes, believe me, I understand the weight off: “I don’t know where to start!”
So, start from here:
1. Who Will You Serve?
This is the first thing you need to ask yourself. Or you can ask me! I can help with an expert advice that will include your unique situation. Although I strongly encourage my clients to find the answer themselves, I can at least point at a direction.
Or two:
• Is there a market for what you intend to offer?
• Who is your competition and can you keep ahead of them?
Examine couple target groups and see which one can make you the happiest and the richest.
2. How will you manage the financial part of your business?
Strong financial management is the key to a business success. Most of the challenges you will face will be related to money. That is why you need a solid financial plan. I usually ask my clients how they plan to approach payroll and most of the times I catch them by surprise. If you want your group home business to succeed you need to get specific. And by that I mean you need to define your numbers.
Therefore:
• What’s your Budget?
• How much do you want to make?

Having a specific number in mind on the second question is a game-changing situation! When your desire has a defined form you are highly motivated to work until you manifest it! This is actually the secret of success of many millionaires throughout the world.
The good news is that you are not alone in this. I know exactly how to break this down for you and advise you to direct your money at all the right places.
3. Who will work for you?
This one is tougher than you think. First of all, you need to decide whether you are going to do all the day-to-day operations or hire a property manager. If you have a full-time job you will most likely need to find a management company to do the work for you.
Second, you need to figure out where to find your caregivers and other employees. As I said you need to have specific numbers in mind, therefore you need to determine your rates. And that is the easiest part of the job. Taxes, benefits and other costs might make your head spin!
I remember how overwhelmed I was when I had to figure out all of this by myself without anybody to give me a piece of advice. My goal is to make sure that you are not alone in this. I can save you months of boring research If you just let me help you!
4. Where will you market your Group Home?
You won’t fill in those beds with a simple ad at the back of a newspaper. Nowadays marketing is the No.1 thing that keeps you ahead of your competitors. I already talked about few successful and cheap ways to market your Group Home. And I went even further and created the” 73 Ways to Market Your Group Home” book to make your phone ring like crazy!
But before you get your message out, make sure your message is powerful enough to inspire action. If you need to hire someone to create it for you, do it! Because nothing brings more dollar bills on your account than an awesome marketing campaign!
